Winterstop

When the days shorten, and the temperature goes down, it is time to put the motorcycle inside for a winterstop.

"WHAT !!! " and "Inside!!!" and "Winterstop!!!"

are the responses of experienced winterriders, and his indignation thickens the exclamation marks once more extra. Well, but I am none of the experienced winterrider. More a nitwit, perhaps, riding only in good conditions. Riding a motorcycle is entertainment, and it must be nice. And I am finally still a 'good weather rider'. Besides that, the Honda doesn't have any apetit to start, these last weeks.

I don have any succes to start the engine. Is it too cold, or is there something wrong with the carburateurs? I know, I have not tried everything. I've refreshed the petrol, cleaned and checked spark-plugs, heated up the carburateurs. Nothing helped, the only result was an empty battery. Now it must be put aside for a few months. It is, exceptionally for he end of November, still around the 10 degrees outside, but I decide that it is time.

A few weeks ago I have already clearred out the shed, a racingbike hung upside down on the cieling, and boxes thrown away. There must be sufficient space for the CX now. However, I have to pay attention how I put down my "Red Rascal", because nowadays I have a battery charger, and therefore I must have acces to the battery. Therefore I put the CX backside first into the shed, so I cab reach the battery, if I need to.

Finally, there it stands. It has cost some effort, special the reverse in-manouvre, but it has succeeded, with aid of two sons. I put the cover across it, to prevent any bicycle or whatever to contribute to the large amunt of scratches that are there already. Now I am official 'bike-less' until the end of (I think) March 2007. Then also the necessary points must be finished, before hit the road again, namely new tires and the oil seals on the front legs. And perhaps I must alse look at the ingnition and the carburateurs. But for everything I must not lose sight of that it must remain fun, and that large expences are not yet justified. For now I have to save and lay aside the necessary pennies. One tyre I have in my savings account, still a couple jobs more and then I have the other also.

Sleep gently, CX, and up to next spring, when we go out together again, riding on twisting dikes and small roads, under a warm and pleasant sun. Perhaps to Vechta, and certainly to SJK 2007.

Sleep well....
