Spare Parts from Nijkerk

My CX8000 stator tester get more and more shape. The program is rewritten on some points. Remarks made here and there are, if possible build into the software, or kept aside for a seond version. A short demo for Teus Heufkens, from THV brought some shortcoming to light, like a 220volt plug that did not fit into a socket with safety ground, but taken all things in account, the tester works like I wanted to. Just those D## connectors, I cannot find them!

A trip to Motoport in Zelhem, who could have the right plugs, was whitout succes. The only thing I got from it, was a beautifull trip on the CX on a cold day.

But that same monday evening, into the chatroon of the Dutch Honda CX-500 club, Frans B. offered me a defect CDI-unit. On that there are the right connectors. For a mment I was stunned, but of course, he was right. Those are the right connectors.
That saterday afternoon I went to Frans, in Nijkerk. At Frans' place we went straight into the garage, where Frans keeps his CX-es.

Except the price winning best bike on SJK 2007' Frans has enough parts to build one, but maybe two CX bikes. Racks filled with different parts along the wall, with dozens of parts.

... racks filled ...

Frans had asked if I wanted to take along my statortester. Because of the transport I had knocked together (ponderous) a small crate for the statortester. It didn't look good, but was firm. Just as I Frans had an older laptop computer upgraded to be 'CX-workbook on the bench', and onto that we connected the tester. IO had to look for a few minutes to find the right, newest program, but that problem was soon overcomen.
Three stators were tested, and the results were stored.

From the crates with components a couple Cdi-units were obtained. Frans has three CDI's, one in reserve, one for his project-bike, and one faulty. But which one the faulty is? The CDI's were connected one after the other to my "Blue Angel", and the one that didn't start the CX...... correctly, that one is faulty. It proved be the second, which was faulty. Frans' own CX already was prepared for the winter, and you don't start an engine for a few seconds, just to test things. That is bad for the moter!!.

Now I had a connector set, although it was still fixed to the CDI. Also a shaft cover lay there waiting for me, to put onto the "Blue Angel" I was already very happy with al thes e things, and then Frans asked me what I could use more....

I was not been prepared to that, and therefore could not come up with anything. Or maybe....
The brake handle on the Angel was already since purchase missing a 'bud' on the end, probably broke of after one or two time falling down. If Frans has such an handle somewhere ?
Crate after crate was turned upside down, in search of a hendel, or better, a second hendel. The firstone was for Frans' project-CX. In the third box there was a brake handle, which was assembled at once at the correct place.

I looked around at all those things, perhaps Frans had an extra front-leg for the CX? Or Maybe not?. It was not, because it had been a quarter for five, and started quite to shimmering. Before dark at home... that was not possible anymore. A little hurried I said goodby to Frans, with a handshake as thanks for all those beautiful items, and went away. The 'Blue Angel' can feel a little wobbley from time to time, it always starts. I turned the CX around, and started to the return trip. The last time I drove in the darknes on the motorcycle was October 2006, when a ride from Geldermalsen to Ede almost had me decide to stop riding a motorcycle. How would it go now?
Whereas with surprising speed the evening fell I drove quietly from Nijkerk to Ede. N301 is a not too busy road, where on many streched of road maximum speed of 60km/h is mandatory. And at Barneveld I could take the smaller roads. Or maybe not?
I chose for the A30. If it would not go, or I was not up to it, it always was possible to take an exit to escape the motorway. But everything went well. With a speed of 100-110 km/h I drove to Ede. However, I chose the exit Ede on the A30, instead of the more convienied exit on the A12. It already was good, I found it was enough.

At home I looked at the bounty of that day. A good shaft cover and a defective CDI. That cover, that can wait a while, but that CDI-unit......

Finally the right plugs!

Epiloog

That evening an e-mail from Frans came in. While I was driving away he had noticed that my brakelight did not function very good. He had not seen it properly, but wanted to warn me anyway.

I had suspected such a thing, while breaking cars behind me reacted very late. The breaklight did work, but the adjustment on the rear-brake pedal was 'late', and the switch on the front brake didn't work everytime I used the brake. Mayby only a brake-switch problem.

Good that Frans pointed it out to me!
