CX-Stamtafel Veluwe

During a relaxed mondayevening-chat of the Dutch Honda CX-V club the idea was suggested of a regular table in the area around Apeldoorn. And a couple days later communicated Henk 'honki tonki' T. that he found two locations, but for the second he was not yet certain. Anyway the Cx-stamtafel Veluwe would come, on last Wednesday of each month. A few days later was the location was set. Not a large road house, but "Buds Hollandse Restaurant" in Nieuw Millingen, near Uddel. The regular table was added to the agenda of CX-club, and during a couple days, before the last Wednesday of the month, there was al lot of movement on the forum. Agreements were made, and who would be there, and who could not come to this first regular table Veluwe.

... regular table Veluwe ...

The previous mondaynight the new regular table had been the topic of an extended discussion on the weekly chat. A number had agreed to meet at filling station "De Haan" on the N224, and start from there. An exact time had not been set, but I indicated later that I would be around 18:45 at the filling station. And at a quarter for seven I was there. But I was not the only one. Lieke, Kathy, Steffie and Robin stood there already, and also Theo J. from Bennekom was there. A few minutes later came also Nico and Maria, which accompanied Michael with the car. And Coen was there also, on Lieke's CX650 'Angel', without the sidecar.

From the filling station I took the point, to Uddel. I wanted to take the smaller roads, and so we did. I know the way well, at daylight at least, but a night drive still is not my strongest point. But nevertheless, everything went very well, we had a nice going and the weather was nice. In fact it was deliciously to ride on the CX. The "Red Rascal" functioned very well, besides a slightly squeaking right frontbreak.

Otterlo, Harskamp, Stroe, and there was the last roundabout. After fifty meters we turned left, and stood on the car park of Bud's. Henk approached us, and indicated us the way to the space that he had arranged, and where our 'regular table' was.

To talk, coffee, cosiness, the time flew by. I intended to make a couple of photographs, but Kathy had already rapidly found my camera, and turned out to be enthusiastic photographer. And this way I also appeared on a photograph.

The space we sat was side room of the restaurant, where some other people sat for dinner. When they left, we had the room for ourselves.

Who was there ? Peter, Andre, Theo, Michael, Nico, Maria, Coen, Lieke, Robin, Steffie, Kathy, French, Erik, Marcel, Joost and myself. And of course the organizer of all this, Henk. The time flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to leave again.

The Berends family did not come along to Ede, but drove back directly to home. Also Peter and Andre, who a both had a long way to go, left. On the parking place we had some extended farewells, and we agreed all to be here next month.

I had some trouble, to see in the dark would riding behind me, but at a given moment I thought: 'yes, nou the club is complete' and set off. It was a littke bit colder than earlier that evening, but with a good motorsuit you don't feel the two degrees Celcius. The way back was easy, simply choosing the same way back. I really did not have hurries myselves, and tried to keep at 70-80 Km/h. Sometimes a car drove hurried by, but overall the ride was smooth. In Ede I drove to our starting point, now an empty and dark filling station "De Haan". After a hasty farewell, and short ride through Ede I was home.

The night ride had pleased me well, and a lot of fear, that I had before, was already gone. To drive in the night is with the car is no big deal, but on the motorcycle riding at night is nevertheless another story. This quiet ride, supported by a number of more experienced riders, has helped well to get more faith in myself riding at night.
