Oil Seals

keerring Work on a bike is never done. And that isspecial true for an older bike, with lot's of road-experience. Despite the very good state of the Honda when I bought it, and that allowed me to ride whitout any problems for more than 1500 Km, there are some small and large jobs on the maintenance-horizon.

During the first ride from Uitgeest to Ede I already noticed that there was a smal oil-lealage in the left-frontleg. That point towards a worn-out oil seal ring. If I repair the left-leg, then I also have to change the right seal, so the maintenance level on both sides of the front legs will be the same. This job is planned for the "winter-stop".

Inled rubbers

When I removed the inspectioncap on the carter, before adjusting the valves, I noticed the rubber pipes between the cilinder and the carburaters. The rubbers are dryed out, and are cracking. So I've looked on THE site for information and help on CX, at the Dutch Honda CX-500 club There I learned tha a crack in the inled pipe can lead to 'false air' witch gives a poor mixture, wich reduce the performance of the engine.

In other words, it wil not work properly or at al.

So, I looking for some not to exopensive inled-rubbers for a Honda CX500. If I cannot find them I plan to use some pieces of a biclycle inner tube. It is a quick and dirty fix, and the best solution wil be new original rubbers. But that has to wait, until the the money-boat comes in.

Petrol-tank

My Honda CX500(z) is 27 years old. It is showing on the tank, where are numerous damaged places and on the front of the tank, where is a big dent. It doesn't look good. Sometimes I look at the 'showroom' pages of the CX-site. There you can find perfect renovated, and brilliant polished motorcycles. Hours of work, technical know-how and a reasonable amount of Euro's spend radiates from these astounising beautifull bikes. If you like to see beautifull bikes, really, look in the showroom.

tank tank
My own Honda is not so polisched at all. It has a good and shining front mud-guard, and that's all. I don't have the knowledge, time and mony, to fix the Honda to it's original state. I have that wish, yes, and the love for the bike, yes. And that's it for now. Maybe later......

In any case, I want to do something with the tank. But it's a long term project. It's not a safety issue, not a technical problem, so it can wait. Maybe a good tank-bag can hide most of the paint-damage.....
